La multinacional energética española escala posiciones comerciales en EEUU con el suministro de luz a largo plazo con grandes grupos.
Avangrid, filial de Iberdrola en Estados Unidos, anunció ayer que ha firmado otro gran contrato con la multinacional estadounidense Nike para el suministro de energía eólica, en este caso por una potencia de 86 megavatios. Este es el segundo contrato que firma el grupo español con Nike. Por la potencia contratada, el acuerdo estaría valorado en unos 100 millones de euros según fuentes del sector.
Este acuerdo de compraventa de energía (PPA, por sus siglas en inglés) incluye la parte que faltaba por contratar de la producción del parque eólico de Karankawa, de 286 megavatios, que se instalará en los condados de Bee y San Patricio, en Texas.
Previamente, la compañía había cerrado con Austin Energy un contrato de suministro de 200 megavatios. Cuando finalice su construcción, el parque eólico de Karankawa generará, cada año, suficiente energía limpia para abastecer a más de 75.000 hogares. Está previsto que la construcción del parque comience en otoño.
Los contratos de PPA, o de suministro a largo plazo, se están convirtiendo en la gran baza comercial de Iberdrola en EEUU. El pasado noviembre, Avangrid firmó sus primeros grandes contratos para el suministro de energía renovable con Google, valorados en más de 200 millones de euros.
Iberdrola, también ha lanzado un plan para crecer en Portugal con el objetivo de triplicar su actual cartera de clientes en el país en los próximos tres años, alcanzando así el medio millón para 2020. La energética tratará de plantar cara a EDP, el líder portugués.
Acciona y Unilever
Por otro lado, Acciona ha ganado el contrato de suministro eléctrico de Unilever, que supondrá aportar 23 gigavatios a la hora (GWh) de energía al año a los centros de trabajo que la multinacional de la alimentación y la higiene tiene en España. Acciona suma ya una cartera de más de medio millar de empresas.
