El frigorífico es el electrodoméstico que más gasto añade a la factura de la luz. Está funcionando las 24 horas del día y requiere una energía considerable, en función de su tamaño y la cantidad de alimentos que conserve.
Vía Digital Trends nos llega una infografía que nos enseña a colocar los alimentos correctamente en la nevera para ahorrar energía, y con ello, reducir la factura de la luz. También nos ayuda a conservar durante más tiempo los alimentos.
En Estados Unidos cada año se tira a la basura el 40% de la comida que se compra. Ese representa unas pérdidas de 165.000 millones de dólares.
Si se redujese este desperdicio sólo un 15%, se podría alimentar a 25 millones de norteamericanos durante un año. Y en España cada ciudadano tira a la basura más de 250 euros al año, en comida.
Vamos a ver cómo organizar la nevera para ahorrar dinero en la factura de la luz, y conservar durante más tiempo los alimentos.
1. Los estantes
Como puedes ver en este dibujo, la temperatura no es uniforme en toda la nevera. La zona más caliente (o menos fría) es la puerta del frigorífico. Aquí sólo debes colocar las botellas con bebidas, o los condimentos: salsas, mostazas, etc.
La temperatura de los estantes va descendiendo a medida que bajamos de altura. El estante superior es el menos frío, así que ahí debes colocar cosas que no necesiten demasiada temperatura, como latas de bebidas, yogures o sobras.
En el estante central van los alimentos perecederos, como los huevos, la leche o el queso, y en el inferior, el más frío, deben ir los alimentos frescos que se deterioran más rápido, como la carne y el pescado.
2. Los cajones
Otro truco para ahorrar en la factura de la luz y organizar tu nevera que quizá no sepas tiene que ver con los cajones del frigorífico, ya que tienen distinta humedad. En algunos modelos se indica en el propio cajón.
Si tu nevera es antigua, deja abierto ligeramente un cajón para que la humedad se mantenga en valores medios o bajos. Si lo cierras, la humedad será alta.
Si no es posible dejarlos abiertos (porque la puerta lo impida, por ejemplo), entonces pon siempre los cítricos y los tomates en el cajón del centro de la nevera.
Si tienes cajones con distintos grados de humedad, organízalos así:
- Humedad alta: coloca aquí los vegetales que tienden a marchitarse rápido. Zanahorias, lechugas espinacas, zanahorias, coliflor, etc.
- Humedad media: aquí van los cítricos, melones y sandías, y los tomates.
- Humedad baja: la fruta y vegetales que tienden a romperse o golpearse, y pudrirse: uvas, manzanas, peras, etc.
Otros trucos
No te olvides de lo anterior, y además sigue estos consejos:
- La temperatura del frigorífico siempre tiene que ser menor que 4 grados centígrados. Las bacterias comienzan a proliferar a partir de esta temperatura.
- El hielo en las paredes de la nevera obliga a consumir más energía. Quítalo.
- Deja espacio entre los alimentos para que el aire pueda circular. Así se enfriarán antes y el frigorífico consumirá menos.
- Elimina el polvo y la suciedad de la parte trasera exterior de la nevera (donde están los tubos del condensador), al menos dos o tres veces al año. Favorecerás la circulación del aire y la eficacia energética.
- Limpia los bordes de la puerta (el sellado de goma), eliminando la suciedad y los restos de comida, para impedir que entre calor del exterior, que aumenta el consumo.
- Sella las posibles grietas de la carcasa de la nevera, que también hacen perder eficacia en el enfriamiento.
- Deja siempre una jarra con agua para contrarrestar el aire caliente de los productos con mayor temperatura, que introduces del exterior.
- Deja algunos centímetros de espacio entre la nevera y la pared. Así el calor no se quedará atrapado, lo que obligaría al motor a trabajar más.
Si sigues estos sencillos consejos para organizar tu nevera conseguirás un doble ahorro. Por un lado, reducirás la factura de la luz, porque el frigorífico tendrá que trabajar menos, y por tanto consumirá menos, y por otro, tus alimentos durarán más, así que tendrás que tirar menos cantidad a la basura, ahorrando en la cesta de la compra.
